Cadillac has instructed dealers to halt sales of the 2026 and 2027 Vistiq three-row electric crossover because of a new recall concerning its third-row seat. The manufacturer stated that the power-folding function of the seat could potentially entrap an occupant, leading to a dangerous situation.

“The third-row seatbacks in these vehicles can be powered to fold into the stowed position with a single press-and-release of the ‘down’ control button, which is located either in the cargo area or on the pillar next to the seat,” explained Cadillac’s recall report. “The seatback halts and does not automatically reverse when it detects an obstruction.”

“Smaller individuals could become trapped beneath the seatback, heightening the risk of injury,” the report indicated.

Per GM’s report, the company identified the problem following a similar recall and stop-sale directive from Hyundai regarding the 2026 Palisade, linked to the death of a two-year-old in Ohio.

“On March 31, 2026, a GM engineer filed a report through GM’s Speak Up For Safety (SUFS) program after inspecting the third-row power seatback folding function on a 2026 Cadillac VISTIQ,” the report noted.

“GM carried out this evaluation after a different vehicle manufacturer announced a recall in March 2026,” the report continued. “[T]his recall involved power seats in second and third rows in certain vehicles not responding correctly to contact with an occupant or object during powered seat operation.”

GM stated that cars can be sold if the power-folding third-row seat function is disabled before delivery. This will temporarily “freeze” the seats in position, and customers are being consulted on their preferred settings in the interim.

Directions for disabling the Vistiq’s third row have been provided to dealers; owners currently with a Vistiq will receive notifications to visit their service departments to have the feature disabled until replacement parts can be installed.

Once the parts are available, Cadillac will update all existing and future Vistiqs to ensure that the third-row seat automatically returns to its previous position if an obstruction is detected. The earliest anticipated availability for new parts is the week of August 3rd.
