Ford's latest effort to gain traction with electric trucks in America is on the horizon, as prototypes are currently being tested in real-world conditions.

The new $30,000 electric truck from Ford was recently seen undergoing tests in Dearborn, Michigan, featuring heavy camouflage that obscures what looks like production-ready lighting, body, and interior, giving us a glimpse of this compact truck.

Ford has confirmed that this new electric truck will differ entirely from the now-defunct full-size F-150 Lightning and will be comparable in size to a Toyota RAV4, complete with a small bed. If that reminds you of a Ford Maverick, you're correct. These prototype images not only validate this information but also offer a sense of scale, as the small electric truck was seen next to a Ford Expedition for comparison.

Additionally, we can confirm that this specific prototype is equipped with 19-inch wheels fitted with Michelin E Primacy tires, measuring 245/55R19. It remains uncertain whether this is the standard wheel and tire setup or part of an upgrade or optional package.

The truck features a less cab-forward design than anticipated, presenting a more conventional shape. However, the windshield's steep angle suggests a focus on aerodynamic efficiency. The blunt front end of this prototype includes a camera, and the lower air intakes seem to have active shutters for improved efficiency.

Real door handles are visible (thank you, Ford), along with what looks like a spoiler at the rear of the cab. The rear glass is difficult to discern because of the camouflage.

Inside the cab, a large touchscreen can be seen protruding from the dashboard. The covered dashboard and its angle prevent us from determining if there’s a digital gauge cluster or if the interior will resemble a Tesla-style setup with a single screen. The thick A-pillars are clearly visible, which might obstruct pedestrian visibility, but we will hold off on final judgement for now.

We will continue to provide updates as the development of Ford's $30,000 electric truck progresses.
