Monza clinches sprint race for 2027.
"Starting next year, for three years"
Monza will host the Formula 1 sprint format from 2027, following a three-year agreement reached by the organizers. The announcement was made by the president of the Automobile Club d’Italia, Geronimo La Russa, during the launch event for this year’s Italian GP in Milan.
"We’ve finalized an agreement," La Russa stated. "Beginning next year and lasting for three years, we’ll have the Sprint race." He also mentioned that this year's Italian GP is already fully booked, prompting organizers to add a temporary grandstand to accommodate the high demand.
"A temporary grandstand has been added, which wasn’t initially planned," he explained. "It will be reserved for ACI members at first, but will later be opened to the public."
Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali expressed that Monza is poised for another remarkable weekend, especially after Ferrari's comeback and Charles Leclerc's recent victory at Silverstone. "Culture is also essential to Formula 1," he noted. "Yesterday at Silverstone, there was a massive turnout, and I hope this will translate well for the Monza GP."
He also highlighted the increasing excitement surrounding Italy's two leading stars. "Sunday’s race is sold out, and we have a Ferrari that’s back in the limelight, along with Kimi Antonelli representing our country. All the elements are in place for a significant Grand Prix."
