2027 Ram TRX vs Rumble Bee Hellcat: A Guide to Ram’s Supercharged SRT Trucks

The latest car news and reviews, no nonsense

What a difference a year makes. A year ago, the fastest Ram available was the RHO. This Ram off-roader, powered by Hurricane technology, included almost all the features of the former TRX, except for two: a Hemi V8 engine and a name from the prehistoric era. We were informed back then that “TRX” would never be associated with a truck that did not have a Hemi, considering the nearly 48-month tradition of the nameplate.

In just one year, Ram has transitioned from a light-duty lineup entirely lacking V8s to one that boasts three different V8 options, all available across nearly every variant of the 1500 series. This development means the TRX is about to encounter competition—not from a revamped Ford F-150 Raptor R or an innovative super-truck from GM, but from within its own lineup. Yes, I'm referring to you, Rumble Bee.

So, in the showdown of the ultimate SRT-powered pickups, which one truly stands out? It ultimately depends on your intended use. The 2027 Ram TRX SRT and SRT Rumble Bee Hellcat are indeed equipped with the same supercharged Hemi V8 producing 777 horsepower, but their overall designs are quite distinct.

If you tell a TRX driver to go pound sand, they might not quite get the message. After all, the TRX is built for relentless performance. It features off-road tires, provides more standard ground clearance, and is equipped with trail-friendly Bilstein adaptive dampers to maintain stability on rough surfaces. It also boasts a locking rear differential, useful for uneven or technical terrains.

On the contrary, the Rumble Bee is designed for speed on pavement. It has a wheelbase that is over a foot shorter (along with the rest of the truck), meaning less weight and quicker directional changes. It is also lower to the ground, with a minimum ground clearance of just 8.1 inches, and features a much stiffer suspension. Additionally,
