Ayrton Senna's racing helmet, which the legendary Brazilian used in several Grands Prix during the 1992 season, was sold at auction in Silverstone for half a million pounds. The helmet was auctioned on July 7 at the Silverstone museum by BUDDS Auctions – according to the auction house, this was the first time this helmet had been publicly sold. The authenticity of the helmet is confirmed by a McLaren certificate of authenticity. Its use in races is documented in numerous photographs. Senna wore this helmet during the British, German, and Hungarian Grands Prix in 1992. In Hungary, he won the race wearing this helmet. The preliminary value of the helmet was estimated at £80,000–£120,000, but it ultimately sold for £500,000.
