Russell: In our sport, it's important to never give up.
On the air of the Nu Silver Arrows Radio Show, George Russell spoke with satisfaction about the podium in Silverstone…
George Russell: “I am very happy that this year, for the first time in my Formula 1 career, I stood on the podium in Silverstone.
I first came to this track at the age of 11, I won my first victory in formula series – in the British Formula 4 in 2014 – right here, and I also first got behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car in Silverstone.
This year I have often been unlucky, and when the engineer informed me about a slow puncture just as I was about to attack Max for third place, I thought to myself: ‘Not now.’
If someone had told me that after returning to the track from that pit stop in seventh behind Isaac Hajar, I would be second after 14 laps, I would have considered such a scenario impossible. Unless a torrential rain could help. But that’s how our sport is – in any situation, you have to keep fighting and never give up.”
