Formula 3 will hold an official two-day test at Madrid’s new Formula 1 circuit next month as part of the preparations for the venue's world championship debut. The test, scheduled for August 24-25, follows Ferrari’s filming day last week and aims to assess the circuit’s sporting, operational, and safety protocols in real racing conditions.

Additionally, Formula 3 announced that its 2026 season finale in Madrid will be expanded to feature an extra qualifying session and a second feature race, compensating for the round in Bahrain that was canceled earlier this year. "I’m very pleased to announce this F3 test session," commented Formula 3 CEO Bruno Michel. "It will provide our teams and drivers with two crucial days of testing to prepare for this new challenge before the important final round of the 2026 season."

Madrid GP director Luis Garcia Abad emphasized that the goal has always been to ensure the circuit is fully validated prior to Formula 1's arrival in September. "From the very start, we were clear that we wanted to present a fully tested and validated circuit for the Grand Prix," he stated. "These test days enable us to perform all the necessary checks before the Grand Prix's first event."

Meanwhile, David Escude, the sports councillor for Barcelona, remains optimistic about the long-term prospects of the Circuit de Catalunya, despite Madrid taking over as the venue for the Spanish GP. "I believe time will prove us correct," he told Metropoli Barcelona. "The Madrid track is not well-liked, even among the drivers. We have one of the finest circuits. While it does require modernization and investment, we are hosting an excellent race. We trust that everything will eventually align." Barcelona is set to return to the Formula 1 calendar in 2028 under the sport’s new rotation agreement with Spa-Francorchamps.
