A new era of The Grand Tour is starting. We’ve learned who the new hosts will be—Throttle House’s Thomas Holland and James Engelsman, along with the popular train-focused TikToker Francis Bourgeois—and now we have the premiere date for their first season. Six episodes are set to launch on Prime Video on September 4, a Friday.

With the tagline “New Show. Same Knobs,” the revamped Grand Tour promises “big adventures, questionable car choices, and plenty of laughs,” featuring the following scenarios, as stated in Amazon’s press release:

      - Crossing the Angolan desert in track cars

      - Exploring Malaysia’s vibrant car culture

      - Traveling to California to test state-of-the-art performance cars

      - Challenging fighter pilots and even an entire nation's legal system

This essentially encapsulates the essence of classic Top Gear/Grand Tour: grand journeys in vehicles poorly suited for the task, cultural excursions involving cars, and testing the boundaries of international law. The announcement included some memorable quotes from the hosts, and Bourgeois vividly described his experience:

“Since finishing the filming of the series, I haven’t stopped reliving every moment in my mind. It made me laugh, gave me heart palpitations, and made my stomach churn… remembering the tent I shared with Thomas and James, filled with sulfuric farts while Angolan jackals prowled outside. It feels like a dream, but knowing we’ll share our adventures soon makes me incredibly excited!”

With references to farts and jackals, I must admit this new series is definitely hinting at all the right elements. Holland and Engelsman are likely familiar names to many readers, but if you’re less acquainted with Bourgeois and what he brings to a car show, check out the train-chasing video he made nearly two years ago with Chris Harris. It was actually suggested by a commenter (thanks!) on my colleague Andrew’s earlier blog about the Grand Tour reboot, and it’s an enjoyable watch featuring a Mercedes-AMG CLK DTM Cabriolet. It’s a strong setup for success; we’ll see how the full-length offering turns out.
