McLaren will receive a new power unit in Belgium.
At the upcoming Belgian Grand Prix, McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri will receive a new power unit. For each of them, this will be the third power unit of the season, and it will be of a new specification that incorporates solutions aimed at improving reliability.
On the cars of the factory Mercedes team, this specification power unit was introduced at the Austrian Grand Prix, and now it is McLaren's turn.
Additionally, during the Friday practice sessions in Spa, the Woking team will test an updated rear wing. The decision to use it during the weekend will be made after assessing its effectiveness in the free practice sessions.
Neil Holdsworth, Technical Director for car development: "We have prepared very thoroughly for this stage, having done a significant amount of work in the simulator, as we understand that we are facing a very challenging weekend in terms of energy management.
In Spa, we will bring a new rear wing, which has been planned for a long time as part of the car development program. We expect it to provide a speed boost, but after the challenging British Grand Prix, especially regarding the car's efficiency, we understand that the upcoming stage will not be easy either. Therefore, we do not expect any sharp increase in competitiveness.
The Belgian Grand Prix will be one of the most challenging stages of the season in terms of energy management, as Spa is one of the most demanding tracks in the calendar in this regard. We expect that drivers will often have to use the super-clipping mode, which will be a serious test for both the car and the drivers.
Moreover, the weather forecast remains very uncertain. Rain will create additional challenges, but at the same time, it may give us the long-awaited opportunity to work with this car in full wet conditions for the first time and understand how it behaves at low grip levels. This data could prove very useful for the remainder of the season."
