Bortoleto makes a long-term commitment, while Sauber supports Audi.

      Gabriel Bortoleto has confirmed his long-term commitment to Audi, putting to rest any speculation regarding the manufacturer’s 2027 driver lineup. "My future with Audi is already settled," the Brazilian announced as the Hungarian GP weekend commenced. "I will be with the team for many years, as I have a multi-year contract. While I cannot share the exact length, I wouldn't object if they chose to make that information public." He expressed optimism about their collaboration, stating, "We have a long journey ahead, with many years of partnership. I hope we will celebrate numerous great victories in the future." Nico Hulkenberg has also addressed uncertainties about his own position.

      With Audi's driver pairing seemingly confirmed, Peter Sauber, who has been synonymous with the team for over three decades, defended the advancements being made behind the scenes. "Starting with a new engine formula and twice the number of personnel, including in Hinwil, is challenging," the 82-year-old told Blick. "What is crucial now is the team's unity. With Binotto at the helm, they appear to have the right leader." He noted that Binotto’s extensive experience at Ferrari equips him with the knowledge to both build engines and design cars, which offers him a significant advantage over other team principals. Retired Sauber also mentioned that "James Key's car is performing better than many anticipated."

      Meanwhile, Bortoleto has diverged from many of his peers by endorsing the controversial 2026 regulations in Formula 1. He expressed his disagreement with drivers who claim they must alter their inherent "driving style." The 21-year-old remarked, "I don't believe any F1 driver should say that, as we should adapt to any type of car, even if it doesn't feel instinctive. That's the essence of our role; that's why there are 22 F1 drivers globally." He emphasized that motorsport should not reflect a singular driving approach, asserting, "Just because you learned something in karting doesn’t mean you have to stick with it for your entire career."

      Bortoleto also dismissed concerns about software having excessive control over performance. "We're in Formula 1, right?" he stated. "We're pushing forward the technology of the future." He questioned the notion of Formula 1's identity if all available tools were not utilized. "In the past, people complained about drivers having too many responsibilities. Now, that the technology assists us, we bemoan that it's the car doing the work." He expressed satisfaction with the current trajectory and stated, "I don’t believe that should change."
