Adrian Newey: We are on the right track!
At Aston Martin, they have made certain progress with the "Specification B" of their car – Fernando Alonso reached the second part of qualifying for the first time this season...
Adrian Newey, team principal: "We came to this weekend with the aim of competing with other cars, and reaching the second part of qualifying confirms that we are on the right track.
Fernando demonstrated the potential of the car today, and Lance, despite a limited number of laps on Friday, improved his time in the last attempt until a gust of wind pushed him into the gravel.
We need to work with these updates to get more out of them. We still have a lot to do."
Fernando Alonso (16th): "This weekend we are much more competitive, and reaching the second part of qualifying is a step in the right direction. Yes, this version of the car still needs to be studied and optimized, but it is already more stable and predictable than the previous version, and it has become much easier to drive. Tomorrow we will see what it is capable of in the race."
Lance Stroll (20th): "The new version of the car has more downforce and better grip on the track – that’s a positive aspect.
In my last attempt, I was picking up the pace and was confident that I could reach the second part of qualifying, but due to a gust of wind in Turn 12, the car refused to turn, and I couldn’t complete the lap.
We still lack power, and there is work to be done on balance, especially after I lost so much time yesterday, but the progress made is encouraging. I hope we can build on it tomorrow."
