Lando Norris: I am very happy to be back on top again!

      Lando Norris won the Hungarian Grand Prix and climbed to the top step of the podium for the first time this season. This is already the 12th victory in the career of the British McLaren driver and the first as the reigning world champion. Oscar Piastri, Norris's teammate, was also vying for first place at the Hungaroring but retired due to a gearbox failure. Lando Norris (1st): "I'm exhausted! What happened on the first lap? Honestly, I don't even know. I just lost control of the rear of the car in the second corner. Throughout the race, the car went off the track three or four times. To be honest, it was terrible. Oscar did a great job and got ahead, and I thought it was all over for me on the first lap. Then I attacked as hard as I could, trying to force Oscar into a mistake. I probably have never had such a good pace. The car handled excellently, I felt very confident, so it was a great race. I didn't expect this, but I had a great pace, I could extend stints on new tires, and all of this allowed me to win. I'm very happy to be back on top! Given how well everything went today, I want to believe that we can continue in the same spirit. The track in Hungary is probably the most suitable for me this season. Maybe we performed even better than we could, but I definitely believe that we can win another race. I knew a victory was coming, and the team put in a huge effort for us to finally win. There is no doubt that this success will help all of us. We have strong competitors – Ferrari is fast, Kimi is always on point in every session. He does a great job, and if we want to get back to the top, we need more performances like today, we need to put more pressure on our rivals. This weekend we did everything perfectly, but it was tough. We will continue to attack and work hard. But right now, we need a break that we deserve. I hope we come back stronger." Oscar Piastri (retirement): "Lando's overtake on the first lap was the highlight of my race, after which everything went downhill. We have a lot to discuss with the team. First of all, I had no pace on the Hard tires at all. Then I got hit by a lapped car – everything that could go wrong went wrong. It ended with a gearbox failure. So yes, not the easiest day. When Carlos Sainz hit me, I hoped the team wouldn't call Lando into the pits right after that incident to give me a chance to maintain the lead, but that would have been unreasonable on their part. At that moment, I was very upset, but now I think the timing for my pit stop was right since we wanted to get ahead of Lewis and had to do it."
