      Malaysia seems on the verge of confirming a surprise return to Formula 1, potentially hosting the postponed Bahrain GP at Sepang in October. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim indicated that an announcement is forthcoming amidst reports that Formula 1 aims to fill the October 4 slot between Azerbaijan and Singapore. "We will make an announcement regarding F1 on Sunday," Anwar stated to Malaysian media. According to The Straits Times, active discussions and evaluations are in progress regarding Malaysia's first grand prix since 2017. This unconventional solution may see the event officially retain the Bahrain GP name, even though it would take place at Sepang, as the original Sakhir race was postponed due to the conflict related to Iran. Sky Italia reports that Saudi Arabia’s return is now effectively ruled out, and Bahrain could potentially shift to Malaysia, as Sepang fits seamlessly into the freight route between Baku and Singapore. The status of Qatar and Abu Dhabi later in the season is also uncertain, particularly with the escalating Middle Eastern conflict. Imola has also emerged as a potential emergency option, possibly for the season finale in early December. Imola's mayor, Marco Panieri, and circuit director, Pietro Benvenuti, are present in the Hungaroring paddock this weekend for discussions. Corriere della Sera mentions that Imola is prepared to take over, though low temperatures, rain, and fog would pose significant risks for a December race. The start time could be adjusted to midday to mitigate issues with diminishing light. Formula 1 is expected to confirm the October arrangement first, while postponing decisions regarding Qatar, Abu Dhabi, and any potential replacement finale until the geopolitical situation is clearer.
