      Toto Wolff has downplayed Ferrari's two wins this season, stating that Mercedes lost both races due to circumstances and reliability issues rather than a lack of performance. Ferrari has narrowed Mercedes' lead in the constructors' championship to 72 points after victories in Barcelona and Silverstone, while McLaren has also progressed with recent updates. "Ferrari’s two wins were because we lost them," Wolff is quoted as saying by Eurosport Italia. "We were unfortunate in Barcelona with the Safety Car and then Kimi's issues at Silverstone. We began the season very strongly. As a team and a company, the integration of the power unit and chassis enabled us to achieve dominant results. However, we faced significant reliability issues, experiencing three or four retirements. We likely lost 70 to 80 points due to missed finishes in comparison to Ferrari. Today we have a 72-point advantage, but if we were to add another 70, the margin would be considerably larger. Nonetheless, we have lost those points, and the others are closing in." Wolff also acknowledged that Mercedes has been out-developed in recent races. "When someone introduces updates, they gain an advantage," the Austrian remarked. "We saw Ferrari and McLaren bring in updates, unlike us, and we suddenly found ourselves in a tough battle." Meanwhile, Ferrari technical director Loic Serra, who transitioned from Mercedes, dismissed claims that the improving SF-26 should be seen as his car. "I don’t consider this car to be 'mine,'" he told Italy’s Autosprint. "Instead, it is the result of the efforts of a fantastic team composed of many professionals. It’s a project that is constantly evolving and subject to ongoing development." Serra indicated that a final assessment of Ferrari's performance will have to wait until the end of the season.
