      Nowadays, you can order nearly anything via your phone or computer for same-day delivery, but if you’re the DIY enthusiast or own older vehicles, you may frequently have to depend on dealerships for hard-to-find replacement parts. If you've ever been stalled on a project waiting for a rare bolt or washer that can only be obtained from a dealer, you understand the frustration of being told over the phone that a part is in stock, only to arrive and discover it hasn't been on the shelf for over ten years.

      Fortunately, DoorDash and AutoParts.com aim to eliminate those unproductive trips. Instead of contacting multiple dealers, you can search for the part you need on DoorDash and order it, often for same-day pickup or delivery. If it isn't in stock, you'll receive a refund. No wasted trips, no circular conversations with an uninterested counter employee, and no endless debates over VIN numbers or part compatibility. Plus, there will be no one trying to sell you a new car instead of a $7 seal. Just click or tap, and relax while you wait.

      At least, that’s the concept. As a DIYer with an older vehicle, I'm well-acquainted with the tedious task of navigating confusing online dealer interfaces to find poorly labeled or entirely unlabeled replacement parts. Unfortunately, DoorDash doesn't greatly improve this situation. The item descriptions appear to be directly sourced from existing inventory systems, meaning their quality reflects the effort put into the dealer’s part listings.

      It may not be perfect, but anything that simplifies the process of obtaining unique factory parts (or OEM parts in general, especially for maintaining warranty coverage) is helpful. Many maintenance parts and fluids have been available on DoorDash for a while—largely because they can be found at nearly every type of retailer, including convenience stores, home improvement stores, and grocery stores. However, this marks the first instance of OEM-specific replacement parts being sold on the platform independently, which is a positive step, particularly with the consolidation occurring in the aftermarket industry.
