The FIA wants to make the cars even lighter.

      The long-term increase in the minimum weight of cars has led to them becoming too heavy; now the FIA is trying to gradually reduce weight, but modern cars and power units are too complex to make them significantly lighter within a limited budget. In 2026, cars are supposed to weigh no less than 768 kg, which is 32 kg less compared to the previous season, but FIA single-seater racing director Nicholas Tombazis hopes for further reductions... Nicholas Tombazis: "I would like the next version of the regulations to make cars another 80 kg lighter, and in the future, to lose even more. That is the goal. We want to make cars smaller and lighter. This year we made an important step in this direction, but it cannot be said that the work is done and the goal is achieved. We strive for more."
