Unique McLaren F1 GTR sold for a record amount
The McLaren F1 supercars, produced in the mid-90s, have long held a cult status in the automotive world. The car was created by the famous designer Gordon Murray, who initially wanted to build the perfect car for everyday driving on regular roads, but at the same time, many racing technologies and engineering solutions of that time were embodied in his creation.
He created a true masterpiece, which is why such cars in the racing version GTR achieved 38 wins in endurance races, including winning the "24 Hours of Le Mans" in 1995.
A total of 28 McLaren F1 GTRs were built, so the car can confidently be considered unique, and one of them recently sold at auction during the traditional car festival in Monterey for $34,655,000.
This is a record amount, as the car became the most expensive sports car of this brand in history, as well as the most expensive British-built car ever sold at public auction.
The value of this particular specimen is explained by several circumstances: firstly, the McLaren F1 GTR with chassis number 10R previously belonged to Nick Mason, the drummer of the legendary band Pink Floyd, for 25 years, which is already a significant point.
Secondly, the car, assembled in December 1995, looks very impressive as it is styled in Pop Art, and this is its original factory paint job. Such a car is unique in the world.
Moreover, McLaren specialists re-equipped this car, originally created for racetracks, in 1999, making it quite suitable for driving on regular roads, and there are all the necessary documents regarding this.
Who paid nearly $35 million for the car and became its new owner has not been disclosed.
