It’s not unusual for a Toyota Prius to perform well at 100,000 miles. However, accumulating that many miles in just eight months? That has to be one of the most intense unofficial durability tests for the current generation of the vehicle. Even New York City taxis typically don’t reach that mileage so quickly. So, when I learned about Shane Somers’ 2026 Prius LE reaching this milestone, I was eager to find out how the car had held up.
Somers operates a medical supply transportation business, delivering essential items to hospitals and nursing homes. Last year, he clocked 110,000 miles on a new Land Cruiser. After we covered that, I told him to reach out if he ever wanted to share more insights about high-mileage experiences with new cars.
Well, I received another message from him last week: “My 2026 Toyota Prius LE hit 100,000 miles today. I’ve had the car for eight months, and it has taken over for my reliable Land Cruiser not long ago.” Somers mentioned that the vehicle is performing excellently and still looks almost brand new. Even the driver's seat, which has seen countless hours of use, still appears to be in great shape.
Here’s the maintenance history:
10 Oil Changes
13 Tire Rotations
3 Engine Air Filters
3 Cabin Air Filters
1 Engine Coolant/Inverter Service
1 Set of Tires (5 flats with the factory tires, none with the Goodyear Assurance tires)
1 Alignment
1 Set of Front Wipers Replaced
Aside from routine maintenance, it’s been 100,000 miles of trouble-free driving. This serves as proof when you need to explain why automotive longevity is simply a matter of regular fluid and filter changes!
The initial years of a vehicle’s life are always the strongest. All the bushings and metals haven’t yet deteriorated from environmental effects, making the car optimally insulated from the road and outside atmosphere. Still, I find it fascinating to hear how a car with such high mileage so early in its life is performing. So far, it sounds like this one is doing quite well.
