Cadillac refutes rumors of a sale, while drivers support the shake-up.
Cadillac has swiftly refuted claims that its Formula 1 project might be on the market, while both Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas expressed during the Zandvoort event that significant internal changes are necessary. Speculation arose amid increasing scrutiny of TWG Global founder Mark Walter, whose broader business affairs are currently under investigation by U.S. federal prosecutors. A spokesperson began Thursday's media session in Zandvoort by reading a prepared statement from TWG, asserting that neither Cadillac nor any segment of TWG Motorsport is for sale. "TWG is not contemplating selling the Cadillac team or any other part of TWG Motorsport," he stated.
Marcin Budkowski, the newly appointed team principal, was equally assertive. "I am confident that this situation will not impact us in any way," he asserted. "The new base, my appointment, and the key personnel, whom we hope to introduce soon, all underscore the seriousness of our commitment and investment in this project." Budkowski has only recently succeeded Graeme Lowdon following a surprising management reshuffle during the summer break, and both Cadillac drivers indicated that this change reflects deeper issues.
"I believe it was time for change," Perez stated. "This indicates that, despite it being our inaugural year, Cadillac is truly eager to advance this team as swiftly as possible. We hope that with the new leadership, progress can be made soon." Bottas was even more forthright, saying, "I think something needed to be altered within the team. We are hindered by several longstanding issues that require resolution. However, I did not anticipate such substantial changes." Nonetheless, he expressed appreciation for Lowdon's efforts in getting the new operation up and running. "Naturally, it's unfortunate that Graeme had to leave, as he is my friend first," Bottas remarked. "I also believe he did an excellent job organizing the team and preparing for its debut race, and for that, I commend him."
Meanwhile, Perez countered speculation regarding his own future connections to rival teams. "From my perspective, it was clear when I arrived that it was a two-year contract," he noted. "However, I truly want this. I view this as my project and wish to be part of Cadillac long term, as starting from the ground up demands considerable time."
Budkowski's immediate goal is to elevate Cadillac from the bottom of the standings, while long-term efforts are already focusing on establishing its eventual works engine program. "At this moment, we are content with our relationship with Ferrari, and the engine is competitive," he explained. "I believe our collaboration is progressing well. So, as it stands now: we are pleased to partner with Ferrari."
