During the August break in the championship, George Russell announced his engagement to Carmen Montero Mundt, his Spanish girlfriend with whom he has a long-standing relationship. It’s no surprise that the first question he was asked at the press conference in Zandvoort was about this event, which is very important for the Mercedes driver.
George Russell: “It was a completely special and joyful day, before which I had to think about a lot of things, for example, I was interested in designing the engagement ring and all the preparations. And when the moment came, I was able to say my words, although when I got down on one knee, I unexpectedly felt a strong nervousness. But everything went wonderfully.
During the summer break, I managed to disconnect from everything related to Formula 1, especially since the second half of the season will be very intense for everyone. So I tried to make the most of these two weeks, although for the first ten days, thoughts about work were still there.
Speaking of the upcoming weekend, I think every race weekend is very important. We are only halfway through the season, so we just need to keep working. In the first part of the championship, I had a decent phase, but the last three races have been challenging for various reasons. But now I am ready to get back to work and will try to return to a good rhythm.
I try not to think about being behind my teammate in the standings and just focus on treating each race as a separate event. I know I need to improve my results if I want to be in the title fight – that is my priority task right now.”
