Oscar Piastri: It will be very difficult to overcome Mercedes.
Oscar Piastri confirmed that the McLaren team has prepared a number of small technical updates for the Dutch stage of the season in addition to the important chassis MCL40 upgrade that was timed for the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Oscar Piastri: "The car will have a number of new components, although I expect other teams to present their updates as well. Maybe not this weekend, but at several of the upcoming stages of the season.
In terms of pace in Hungary, our team did quite well, and I believe I already understand what I could have done better then. It's a good moment, and I'm ready to start again.
The track in Zandvoort is quite similar to the Hungaroring in certain respects, with comparable cornering speeds, and it is just as narrow and winding. I hope this weekend can also turn out quite well.
Although it will be very difficult to beat Mercedes, including when it comes to our chances of overtaking this team in the longer term. It is clear that they currently have a significant advantage. But if we manage to win a few more races and get on the podium several times, maybe then the situation will start to change in our favor.
But I think our main task right now is to try to achieve the most effective performance of the car every weekend, and then we will see what level that allows us to reach."
When Piastri says that the Hungarian weekend went quite well, he primarily means that his teammate, Lando Norris, secured McLaren's first victory of the season. However, the Australian driver retired from the race on lap 55 due to a gearbox failure.
