Russell: I thought the speed would be enough to fight for pole.
George Russell showed the second result in the qualifying session preceding the Dutch Grand Prix, but he lost to Lando Norris, who secured pole position, by more than a tenth. The third result went to Kimi Antonelli, who is leading the World Championship.
George Russell (2nd): "I want to say that Lando did a great job, so congratulations to him and McLaren, but we also had a pretty confident session. I thought we had enough speed to fight for pole, but I'm quite satisfied with second place, especially after a few tough races where I’ve returned to high positions.
It seems I'm getting back into a good rhythm, and of course, tomorrow I will try to fight with McLaren. It's quite possible that the summer break did me good, and now I'm in good shape. It's important that my confidence has returned, and driving is enjoyable.
It feels like the cool weather contributes to high speeds, so everyone is enjoying driving, and I'm already looking forward to tomorrow's race."
Kimi Antonelli (3rd): "Overall, the qualifying session was not easy for me; I was lagging behind the whole time, and then on the last lap, I made a mistake in Turn 1 and lost a couple of tenths. It's a shame because we had the opportunity to fight for pole.
I thought we had such a chance in the final session, but when I just started my last attempt, I saw that I was already a couple of tenths behind after the first sector. It was clear that I was in a difficult situation, but I managed to make up quite a bit until the end of the lap.
It's a pity that the result is worse than it could have been, but we will still fight in tomorrow's race."
