F3: Ugochukwu showed the best time in the tests in Madrid.
On the new Madring track, which will host the Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix in mid-September, two-day Formula 3 tests have concluded. On Tuesday, the best time was set by Ugo Ugochukwu, who completed a lap in 1:49.034 seconds.
In the morning, drivers began working on a series of fast laps. The tests were quickly interrupted by red flags due to Fernando Barrichello's spin at turn 8. The car was undamaged, so the AIX Racing driver made his way back to the pits on his own, and soon the tests resumed.
After that, young drivers continued to take turns at the top of the timing sheets until red flags appeared on the track for the second time. This time, Evan David stopped, but he was able to get going again after a pause and return to the pits.
Soon, red flags appeared for the third time – this time due to a serious incident. Uhyun Shin crashed his car at turn 5, causing a prolonged pause.
The tests resumed with just over an hour left in the session. Forty-five minutes before the end, Ugo Ugochukwu set the best time of the day - 1:49.034 seconds.
Twenty minutes before the end of the morning session, the tests were interrupted by red flags for the fourth time. This time, Hiyu Yamakoshi hit the barrier at turn 11.
In the afternoon session, drivers focused on long runs. Once again, red flags were not avoided – first, Fionn McLaughlin hit the barrier at turn 14, then Matteo De Palo stopped on the track, followed by Mattia Colnagy losing his front wing at turn 7, and Nicola Lacorte spun at turn 14 but managed to return to the pits on his own.
Forty-five minutes before the end of the afternoon session, the best time was set by Freddy Slater – 1:49.685 seconds, which no one could improve by the end of the day. After that, the tests were stopped again due to Kanato Lee's crash at turn 7.
Twenty-five minutes before the end of the session, the tests resumed, but soon red flags appeared on the track again – Fernando Barrichello seriously crashed his car at turn 3. The driver was unharmed; however, the tests concluded at that point.
The next time Formula 3 drivers will return to the wheel will be in Monza from September 4-6 for the penultimate stage of the season.
