Yuki Tsunoda has acknowledged that IndyCar might become a viable option if he is unable to obtain a Formula 1 seat for 2027. This statement comes just a few days after the Japanese driver leveraged his temporary return to the grid at Zandvoort to urge undecided F1 teams to consider him, saying, "They should call me!" His manager, Diego Menchaca, has been exploring opportunities in IndyCar, reportedly engaging in discussions with nearly half of the championship’s ten full-time teams.
"It's not my responsibility to handle that," Tsunoda mentioned at Zandvoort. "I completely leave that to my manager; my focus is just on driving fast." He added, "My mindset is always on Formula 1. My primary objective is to constantly be racing in Formula 1 and to achieve success." "That focus remains, no matter the circumstances." However, Tsunoda also expressed his desire not to spend another long period as a reserve driver. "I don’t want to be in the garage for two years," the 26-year-old stated. "I want to race. If there’s a possibility of something happening or if I can’t secure a seat for next year, then I’ll have to explore other series." "But until I get back on the track next year, my mentality will remain in Formula 1." Most of the top IndyCar seats for 2027 are already filled, although Meyer Shank Racing has a notable opening, with Mick Schumacher also believed to be in the mix.
