GTA 6’s Extended Look Trailer Features the Game’s Initial Genuine Race Track [Updated]

      It’s confirmed! Grand Theft Auto is introducing its first genuine race track. The “Extended Look” trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI that was released on Friday showcased footage of a competitive race at what appears to be Gellhorn International Raceway. Netflix subscribers can view it for themselves starting Thursday afternoon (check the 17:45 timestamp); others will need to wait for the trailer to be available elsewhere.

      The track is shown amidst a series of other in-game activities. Notably, the clip just before the race track footage features a strip club scene. While there’s nothing explicit (and let's face it, it's a video game), it's worth noting if you're in a mixed (or professional) company.

      There is enough footage to deduce a few important details. First, this is an actual race and not just playful antics within a mission. There is a functioning lap counter, timer, and position tracker visible on the right side of the screen, along with competitors displayed on the mini-map to the left. Second, this seems to confirm that the in-game race track will not be a direct re-creation of Sebring International Raceway, as previously speculated.

      How did we reach this conclusion? Let's rewind a bit. Leaks related to GTA 6 have become somewhat of a regular event. This latest round has been particularly exciting, and if it weren't for the numerous cease-and-desist orders issued by Take-Two in reaction to the shared footage, one might think it was all a marketing ploy ahead of the game’s release later this year.

      Among the highlights from the recent gameplay footage was a zoomed-out image of the game's map. This is a significant find for those excited about the upcoming entry in Rockstar's famed heist series but especially valuable for a segment of the fanbase that has been diligently crowd-sourcing a map of the game world since the early leaks.

      This initiative originally garnered attention due to the potential representation of Sebring in the game world (as “Gellhorn”). If the recently leaked map is accurate, the in-game raceway seems to deviate from Sebring's actual setup, aside from the start/finish line and the main straightaways. Rather than Sebring’s somewhat haphazard road course, it looks like we will be getting something that more closely resembles a contemporary, technical race track—one that even includes bridge crossings, judging by the brief in-game footage we've now seen.

      As expected, the leaks and the extended look trailer have ignited a new wave of activity within the mapping community, with many working to reconcile the discrepancies between their original layouts and what has been disclosed. This endeavor has been hindered by the fact that the leaked map is quite zoomed out and lacks sufficient detail to fill in many of the unclear areas.
