The Extended Look Trailer for GTA 6 Reveals the Game’s Initial Genuine Race Track [Updated]

      It’s confirmed! Grand Theft Auto will unveil its first genuine race track. The "Extended Look" trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI, released on Friday, showcased footage of a head-to-head race taking place at what seems to be Gellhorn International Raceway. Netflix subscribers can check it out starting Thursday afternoon (see the 17:45 timestamp); others will need to wait for the trailer to be available elsewhere.

      The raceway appears in a montage of various in-game activities. In fact, right before the race footage, there’s a scene from a strip club. There’s nothing inappropriate on display (and remember, it’s just a video game), but it’s a heads-up if you’re around mixed company (or professionals).

      The footage reveals several important details. Firstly, this is a legitimate race, not just some mission-related antics. There is a visible lap counter, timer, and position tracker on the right side of the screen, along with competitors shown on the mini-map to the left. Secondly, it appears that the in-game race track will not be a faithful replica of Sebring International Raceway, as had been previously speculated.

      How did we reach this conclusion? First, let's take a step back. GTA 6 leaks seem to be occurring on a quarterly basis. This latest batch was particularly rich, and if it weren't for the numerous cease-and-desist orders being issued by Take-Two regarding the shared footage, we might think it was a mere publicity stunt before the game’s release later this year.

      Among the items revealed in the recent gameplay leaks was a zoomed-out image of the game map. This is an exciting discovery for anyone looking forward to the new entry in Rockstar’s renowned heist series, especially for a segment of the fanbase that has been tirelessly working to crowdsource a map of the game world since the initial leaks.

      This initiative caught our attention particularly due to the possibility of Sebring being featured in the game world (under the name “Gellhorn”). If the newly leaked map is accurate, the in-game raceway deviates from Sebring’s actual layout outside of the start/finish line and the main straightaways. Rather than the awkward, improvised course found at Sebring, it looks like we’ll be encountering a more modern, technical race track—one that even features bridges, judging by the brief in-game footage we’ve seen.

      As expected, the leaks and the extended look trailer have ignited a renewed wave of activity within the mapping community, with many working to reconcile the differences between their original designs and what has been disclosed. This effort has been made more challenging due to the leaked map being quite zoomed out and lacking the detail needed to fill in many gaps.
