Official: Alpine F1 announces contract extension for Colapinto until 2027.
"We are extremely pleased to announce our driver line-up for 2027."
The BWT Alpine Formula One Team is thrilled to confirm its driver roster for the 2027 FIA Formula One World Championship season, featuring Franco Colapinto alongside Pierre Gasly. This season has been a breakout year for Franco, who has already earned 19 points in the championship, scoring in six out of twelve Grands Prix thus far. Following a tenth-place finish in China, he achieved a career-best seventh position in Miami in May. Just two weeks later, he surpassed that with a remarkable sixth-place finish in Montréal, showcasing his maturity, determination, and inherent skill behind the wheel. Franco has fostered a strong working relationship with the team and feels truly at home in Enstone, which he considers his true base in Formula One.
Franco's commitment to 2027, along with the team's confidence in him, highlights its aspirations for the future. As the team aims for greater stability and progress, maintaining consistency with the driver line-up reflects its intentions as Franco and Pierre continue together for a third season in 2027. The pair has built a solid partnership since 2025 when the Argentinian debuted alongside Pierre at the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix.
On the track, their synergy, combined with an enhanced chassis and power unit, has propelled the team to P6 in the Constructors' Championship this year, following a strong first half of the 2026 FIA Formula One World Championship season, which has included double points finishes on four occasions: China, Canada, Barcelona, and Great Britain. At just 23 years old and with 38 race starts, Franco is truly flourishing at the highest level of motorsport. Partnered with Pierre, one of the most seasoned drivers on the grid and often seen as the ideal teammate for Franco, their combination is a perfect fit to drive the team forward.
Almost exactly a year ago, Pierre was in the spotlight heading into Monza race week as he demonstrated his commitment to the team. Now, it's Franco's turn as the team gets ready for the Italian Grand Prix next weekend. He heads to Monza excited, knowing he will have the upgraded A526 package available to race, coupled with the joy of continuing with the team for the next season.
Flavio Briatore remarked: “We are very pleased to confirm our driver line-up for 2027 with Franco staying on as a race driver alongside Pierre. Consistency is crucial for me. We are now stable from a driver perspective, and I have emphasized that while this is an essential piece of the puzzle, our foremost priority is designing and constructing a fast race car. This remains our number one focus. We have witnessed Franco’s remarkable growth and maturity into an excellent driver this year. His performances in Miami and Montréal particularly reinforced what I have always believed: Franco belongs in Formula One and at this team. I expect both Franco and Pierre to continue excelling on the track as the whole team strives tirelessly until we are competing and winning at the front of this sport.”
Franco Colapinto stated: “I am delighted to continue with this team in 2027. I feel very content and well-settled here, and it has been even better that we have made considerable progress this year compared to last. We have many more milestones to achieve, and I know the team is working diligently to enhance performance and improve the car. Our long-term objectives are clear – to compete and win – and I am thankful to the team, Flavio, and Steve for their trust in me as one of its drivers moving forward. I’m eager to see how everything unfolds and will focus on my responsibilities on-track first and foremost.”
