Rob Smedley's achievements in Audi motorsport are impressive.

      Rob Smedley believes that the Audi factory team has made impressive progress in its debut season in Formula 1, but the former Ferrari racing engineer praises the German company most for its achievements in engine manufacturing.

      Audi F1 was created based on the Swiss Sauber, and Smedley, with his characteristic engineering approach, notes the scale of investment in the engine manufacturing project and its high quality, thanks to which Gabriel Bortoleto and Nico Hülkenberg earned points in the last four championship races. The team currently occupies 8th place in the Constructors' Cup, ahead of Williams and Aston Martin, not to mention Cadillac.

      "I want to say that Sauber has been in quite a poor position over the last two to three years," Smedley recalled while participating in the High Performance podcast. "They performed just terribly, there's no other word for it. Although they have always had, or at least for a long time, a good wind tunnel.

      But now, if you look at the engine manufacturing division that Audi has created in Germany, where their power units are produced, I can say that it is really hard to compare it with anything else. They continue to build it up, and this project is developing.

      It truly impresses with its scale. The team's base in Hinwil might need a bit of expansion, but they are also working on that and know what level they want to reach. Overall, this is a truly important project for Audi."
