Martin Brundle's son chooses his partner.
Alex Brundle, the son of a former racing driver and a popular TV commentator, is also a racing driver and a TV commentator, who until recently excelled in this role during the broadcast of F3 and F2 rounds. Alex is also an active participant in various interesting motorsport events, mainly in historic machinery races, although he did compete in the Nürburgring 24 Hours, for example, until last year, but now it's primarily about his love for the machinery of yesteryear. The other day he asked the fans an unusual question: who should he choose as a teammate for the Guernsey Cup race in April? Alex recently received an invitation on behalf of Charles Gordon-Lennox, 11th Duke of Richmond, to take part in the race. It is Gordon-Lennox and his company who organize the famous Goodwood Festival of Speed and other races that take place on the tracks on his estate. The Guerney Cup will be held as part of the traditional Goodwood Racing Club meeting on April 11-13, and Alex Brandl took part in the event last year with his carefully restored Ford GT40 Mk1. And now he is preparing to start this race again, and the format is as follows: it lasts 45 minutes, sportscars produced between 1960 and 1966 are allowed to take part, Of course, Alex was immediately asked to partner his father, Martin Brundle. "He needs to take care of his leg... Maybe he will join me this year, but later," Alex replied on his social media pages.
The fact is that Brandl senior more than 40 years ago suffered a severe injury to his left ankle during qualifying before the Grand Prix of Dallas, and if not for the prompt and correct help of Prof. Sid Watkins, the legendary "head doctor" of Formula 1, everything could have ended in amputation.
Both legs were broken and an old injury to his left ankle is still lingering, so Martin underwent another operation last summer and the rehabilitation period appears to be ongoing. The second candidate suggested to Alex was Damon Hill, the 1996 World Champion. "But he stopped racing back in 2000! Although I still believe that would be a very interesting option," Brandl responded. "Maybe Mr. Jenson Button?" - was the next suggestion, but Alex also expressed certain doubts: "I would love to race with Jenson, but I think he has his own things to do." In general, so far the intrigue remains, but there is still time. Let's see who will eventually pilot the Ford GT40 at Goodwood with Brandl Jr.
