Christian Horner has indicated that Honda "lost some time" in the development of its entirely new power unit for 2026. Last week, Koji Watanabe, the head of Honda Racing Corporation, expressed concern that the Japanese manufacturer is "struggling" to prepare the 2026 engine due to the challenges involved in its development. Red Bull will utilize Honda's current engine in 2025, while the new 2026 Honda engine will be exclusively raced by Aston Martin.

When questioned about Watanabe's comments regarding 2026, Red Bull team principal Horner acknowledged that the new regulations present a "significant challenge" for any engine manufacturer. Additionally, Red Bull is working with Ford to produce its own F1 engine for 2026 and beyond. "We have 48 weeks remaining to develop a reliable and powerful engine," Horner stated, as reported by DAZN.

Regarding whether Honda might face greater difficulties than others in the initial stages of 2026, Horner noted: "They halted the project and then resumed it, so they lost some time. However, they are a highly capable company with numerous strengths. I am confident that by 2026, they will have a competitive engine."

Ford CEO Jim Farley acknowledged the significant pressure on the brand, especially as it was announced that Ford will also create a top prototype for Le Mans in 2027. "After many years, expectations are high for Ford's return to Formula 1," he remarked. "And teaming up with a team like Red Bull, it’s evident that our aim is to win, correct? It’s clear that this is our objective."
