Liam Lawson: I knew I was being evaluated at the end of the season.
Liam Lawson will spend a season at Red Bull Racing in 2025. The New Zealand driver said that when he was invited to replace Daniel Ricciardo at RB last year, he realized that the team's management wanted to evaluate him with an eye to replacing Sergio Perez.
Liam Lawson: "When a young driver is invited to compete for RB, one of the main reasons is to evaluate him, and the driver must prove that his level is high enough to transfer to Red Bull Racing.
Therefore, when I got behind the wheel in Austin, I knew that I would be evaluated, especially since the invitation came at the end of such a season. But there were many other reasons, so besides the opportunity to join Red Bull Racing, I had to prove that I was good enough to stay in Formula 1.
Over the next few races, it became more and more clear that I had this opportunity. But obviously, it all depended on how Sergio copes with his task, and how I cope, as well as how the guys who were also considered perform. But towards the end of the season, it became clear where everything was heading."
Liam Lawson added that the team expects him to contribute to winning the Constructors' Cup: "Last year, the team failed to win the Constructors' Cup, but that's our goal this season. Therefore, we must do everything in our power and prepare as fast a car as possible.
As for my task, if we can compete for the Constructors' Championship, then I have to do my job. I suppose that's what I was hired for, and that's what's expected of me. Although, of course, I have other obvious goals in Formula 1."
