FIA expected to lift restrictions on Russian drivers.

Russian drivers may soon have the opportunity to compete in FIA-sanctioned championships, such as Formula 1, without limitations. In late 2024, Sergey Karyakin, a successful competitor in the Dakar Rally who has declined to sign the well-known FIA document distancing himself from Russia, expressed optimism for the future. "I was able to speak with the sheikh, the president of the FIA," he shared with the Tass news agency, referring to Mohammed Ben Sulayem. "He assured me that next year he would address the issue concerning the inclusion of Russian racers in competitions." Karyakin also informed the Russian-language service Sport-Express that the FIA president recently met with Vyacheslav Yuryevich Yarin, the minister of foreign economic relations. "Yesterday was a very significant meeting—for me personally and for all of motorsport," Karyakin stated. "The FIA president confirmed that he would soon issue a directive enabling Russian racers to participate in competitions without needing to sign documents that condemn our government's actions," he disclosed. "This could represent a major advancement if it does not face substantial opposition within the FIA framework," he added. Since the onset of the crisis in Ukraine three years ago, Russian competitors have been under restrictions and conditions imposed by the FIA.
