The participants of the Race of Champions are fully formed
The organizers of the Race of Champions, which will be held on March 7-8 at the Accor Stadium in Sydney, have announced that its participants have been fully formed.
A recent addition to it is Team Australia Supercars, which includes Jamie Whincup, the winner of seven titles in the popular Supercars bodywork series on the "green continent", and its current champion Will Brown.
And the day before, the names of the last two riders were announced, who will face off against the remaining 18 representatives of different categories of motorsport, who became known earlier. They were Scottish rally driver Max McRae and Frenchman Victor Martin, who competes in Formula 2.
The 20-year-old nephew of the legendary Colin McRae, the 1995 world rally champion, will partner David Coulthard in the British team that will compete for the Nations Cup, while Martin will compete for the French team alongside Sebastien Loeb, the nine-time world rally champion.
Colin McRae competed in the Race of Champions more than once and won it in 1998 – by the way, Coulthard was his partner three times when their duo competed in the Nations Cup.
Max McRae: "My dream is coming true – I will take part in the Race of Champions together with these legendary racers. And I am very happy that I will be representing Great Britain together with David Coulthard.
Of course, my family has a long history of performances and success in these competitions. Now I've got this rare opportunity, and I'm looking forward to getting started. I hope we can put on a good show."
Victor Martin: "I've been watching the Race of Champions on TV all my life, and taking part in it was one of the goals I set for myself. That's why I'll do my best to get the most out of it, because this is what I've been dreaming about since childhood.
These competitions have an incredibly rich history, and now another one of my dreams will come true: I will represent France together with Sebastien Loeb, who, like me, practiced gymnastics in his youth before switching to motorsport.
The Race of Champions will be a great start to the season leading up to the first stage of Formula 2 in Melbourne. Besides, it's also nice that I'll spend a whole week in Sydney, adjusting to the jet lag, the Australian heat, and working out."
This week, construction of a parallel race track with a lap length of 1 km will begin at Accor Stadium – its construction will cost the organizers of the Race of Champions 2 million Australian dollars.
