The FIA is investigating the appearance of a bus on the side of the highway
The pre-season tests in Bahrain this year have been accompanied by all sorts of strange incidents, which have caused work on the track to be suspended with red flags.
The latest incident, which defies explanation, was today's appearance of a bus on the outer shoulder of the highway between the 8th and 9th turns. This happened shortly after the resumption of testing after a day break – usually such Toyota Coasters are used as shuttles, and on them photographers and journalists are transported to distant points of the circuit.
But for this, there is a special road that runs along the perimeter of the highway from the outside of the fence, and how the bus assigned to the circuit ended up during the races where there should be no foreign objects at all is unclear. At that time, the cars of Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon and Yuki Tsunoda were on the track – of course, the riders had to slow down immediately and return to the pits.
An FIA representative confirmed that the session was interrupted with red flags due to the appearance of an unauthorized vehicle near the track. The directorate of the autodrom was unable to explain how this could have happened, and now the federation will investigate this undoubtedly dangerous incident.
It is worth recalling that during this morning's session, the races had to be suspended twice: first, glass fell on the track from the tower of the marshal's post, where the judge with the checkered flag is also located. Of course, it crashed, after which it was necessary to remove the fragments from the asphalt of the start-finish line.
When the traffic light turned green at the exit from the pit lane and Kimi Antonelli's Mercedes and Fernando Alonso's Aston Martin drove onto the track, the red flags had to be hung again: it turned out that one of the marshals did not have time to return to his post and was still on the track.
The FIA has confirmed that all incidents that occurred during pre-season testing will be thoroughly investigated before the Sahir circuit hosts the Bahrain Grand Prix in April.
