Williams explained the results of the tests using examples from geography
Williams drivers Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz drove an impressive 2,137 km in their new FW47 car during three days of pre-season testing in Bahrain.
What this means in reality, the team decided to explain using several examples from geography, comparing the mileage gained on the tests with the distances between different cities of the world, the choice of which is also not accidental.
From Grove to Madrid – 1,849 km
The Williams Racing base is located in the village of Grove, in the British county of Oxfordshire, and Carlos Sainz was born and lives in Madrid. The distance traveled by the FW47 in the tests is almost three hundred kilometers more than the distance between these two settlements. By the way, this difference is approximately equal to the distance of the future Madrid Grand Prix, which is scheduled to take place for the first time in 2026.
From Miami to Austin – 2,137 km
In 2025, three stages of the World Championship will be held in the United States, and the Miami Grand Prix in May is the first of them. According to Williams calculations, the distance traveled during the tests exactly matches the distance from Miami International Racetrack to the Texas Circuit of the Americas, which will host the Formula 1 race in October.
From Singapore to Bangkok – 1,829 km
Alex Elbon, who was born in London and lives in the UK, has dual citizenship – he has both a British passport and a passport from Thailand, where his mother is from. In addition, he competes in Formula 1 under the Thai flag and considers Singapore one of his two home races.
The distance he and his partner covered in the tests more than covers the distance from Singapore to Bangkok, the capital of the Kingdom of Thailand.
From Brisbane to Melbourne – 1781 km
Australia is a big country, and such a route crosses only the southeastern part of this continent. Williams racers have driven more kilometers in tests than the distance between these two Australian cities. It is in Melbourne's Albert Park that the Australian Grand Prix is taking place, which will begin the new Formula 1 season.
Approximately the same distance that Alex and Carlos covered in three days of testing will be obtained if we add to the mentioned route the length of the Great Ocean Road, one of the famous Australian attractions that runs along the Pacific coast of Australia.
We can conclude with the words of James Vaulz, the head of the Williams team, said after the tests: "There are a number of positive aspects, but there are also areas that need special attention.
Before the start of the race weekend in Australia, we have two weeks to decide on the areas of work. Don't pay attention to the headline lap results, but we will do our best to prepare well for the first stage of the season.
See you in Melbourne!"
