Leclerc has a differing opinion from Russell regarding the 2026 tyres.
Charles Leclerc is not supporting George Russell's criticism of Pirelli's proposed narrower tyres for 2026. Max Verstappen chose not to share his thoughts on the performance of the smaller, lighter tyres, playfully stating that they are "round." However, Mercedes is reportedly advocating for the elimination of the narrower dimensions, with leading driver Russell asserting, "They’re clearly worse overall, there’s no doubt about that." In contrast, Ferrari's Leclerc, who has tested the development 2026 tyres, holds a different view. "When you try out new, smaller tyres, you anticipate a significant difference," he stated. "But for me, it felt fine - I didn’t really perceive a major difference. I was pleasantly surprised." McLaren's Lando Norris echoed this sentiment, sharing that the 2026 Pirellis "worked well."
In 2025, Pirelli will introduce an entirely new ‘super soft’ compound named C6, which the Italian brand's F1 chief Mario Isola indicated will make several appearances this year. "We want to adopt a more aggressive approach with our choice of compounds and offer the combination of C4, C5, and C6 on multiple weekends," he told Auto Motor und Sport. Previously, C5 was regarded as the softest compound. "Our aim is to bring the C6 to four or five races, not just Monaco," Isola continued. "Everyone always mentions Monaco, but the C6 won't solve the issues there. The Formula 1 Commission has already decided that we will implement two mandatory pit stops during that race." He mentioned that the C6 will make its grand prix debut before Monaco. "I think we will confirm the first use of the C6 for Imola, then in Montreal," Isola added. "Afterward, we’ll evaluate its performance. Both are representative tracks. If everything proceeds well, we might see the C6 in Singapore and Las Vegas as well. That would total five races, alongside Monaco."
