Dr. Helmut Marko is expressing his hope that the latest developments surrounding Christian Horner will be settled before they escalate to a courtroom. While UK courts have restricted British media from reporting on the issue, De Telegraaf (Holland) disclosed last week that the female staff member who lodged a complaint against the Red Bull team principal last year is set to have her case heard at an employment tribunal in January.
Though UK journalists may currently be silenced, the audience at London’s O2 arena recently made their feelings clear about Horner through audible booing. "I have no comment on that," Marko stated to Osterreich newspaper. However, he acknowledged that the legal situation involving Horner remains active, with the actual court proceedings not expected to begin until January 2026.
"The English jurisdiction has such long lead times," said the 81-year-old Marko. "But I hope that things will settle down before then and that an agreement can be reached."
Rumors suggest that Max Verstappen and his father Jos are displeased that the situation remains unresolved and are contemplating moves to either Mercedes or Aston Martin in 2026. "Every top team principal aiming for the world championship title must be interested in Max," Marko remarked. "But for now, our goal is to win the fifth title."
Jos, however, reacted sharply to Dutch journalist Jack Plooij, who claimed on Ziggo Sport that Verstappen's shift to Mercedes for 2026 is practically confirmed. "Jack Jack Jack," Verstappen senior posted on X. "What nonsense you’re talking."
Meanwhile, Marko fully recognizes that the 2025 season is pivotal for the partnership between Verstappen and Red Bull. "We must provide Max with a car capable of winning the championship," he conveyed to Sport1. "If that happens, I'm not concerned about a potential change.
"Following the tests in Bahrain, I'm optimistic. The test was promising, and the car responds well to setup changes. We're still trailing behind McLaren, but not by much—maybe two tenths at the very most."
