Wasser: Right now we need to focus on work.

In Melbourne, Ferrari team principal Frederic Wasser urged them to focus on their work and not jump to conclusions.…

Question: Frederick, how was Friday? How big is the car's potential for the rest of the weekend at Albert Park?Frederic Wasser: It's too early to draw conclusions on Friday. Last year's stage in Melbourne was the third, and after the last two Grands Prix in this hall, you asked when Red Bull would become champion. As a result, the Constructors' Cup went to another team.

We are gradually picking up speed as the weekend progresses. Qualifying is still a long way off, and Sunday's race is even further away. Stay calm. It's too early to say who will be the champion or who will win on Sunday. We have been doing this job for many years, and we always hear the same questions after Friday's practice sessions at the first Grand Prix.

Q: Lewis Hamilton said yesterday that this is the most exciting period of his life and he is really enjoying it. Are you pleased to hear such words from him?Frederick Wasser: These are Lewis' words... Don't ask me if I think the same way! But of course, I think it's a good adventure for him. He likes what he does, and we like working with him. But you know, we're all in the same situation. In winter, we are all champions, we are all best friends, and then the first qualification brings us back to reality. It's just the beginning of the season, so we need to focus on our work.

Q: Charles Leclair yesterday called the world title his obsession. Do you think he has a good chance this season?Frederick Wasser: I'm not sure if the word "obsession" applies here, but when you've been doing this job since you were three years old, like he started 23 years ago and spent his whole life on the track, it's okay to have a goal, a task or a dream to become a champion.

I do not know if he will become the champion this season or not. My answer is the same – you need to focus on your work. He is doing everything possible to perform well this season, and I am sure he will continue to progress.

Q: Are you impressed with how Lewis fits into everything related to working as a Ferrari driver? It looks like he's really enjoying it.…Frederic Wasser: We've been marketing for two months, and at first the effect was impressive. But it's time to turn the page and get back on track. There's a long way to go. Everything is just beginning.

You need to focus on your work, forget about what's going on around you and work as a team. When Lewis is in the briefing room, he is fully focused and knows his job perfectly. He has to build a relationship with the team. It's not a very long process, but it's necessary. Don't expect too much from the first sessions – there is no such task. We know we have a long way to go, but to be honest, we've already made a big step compared to last year, so I have a good feeling.

Question: Guanyu Zhou came with you to this stage as a backup pilot. How important is it to have a Chinese driver in the sport, especially ahead of the Chinese Grand Prix? Is the role of a backup pilot becoming more important?Frederick Wasser: You can call him a backup pilot or a test pilot, whatever you want. The problem is that we have a couple of good guys, but they compete in the WEC, so when the WEC stage is underway, we have no one to work on the simulator. That's the main reason we hired him. I know Guanyu very well because he used to be with me in Alfa Romeo. He has a lot of experience, he spent three or four seasons with these tires, and of course he will help us.

Q: It won't be easy for Lewis to adapt to Ferrari, but how close is he now to pushing the limits of the car's capabilities?Frederic Wasser: It's not about being at the limit in one session. It's not a question of speed. The goal is for him to get to know everyone in the team, get to know the process, our system, and I think I'm really convinced that we have analogues with Mercedes, maybe under a different name. It's just a learning process. We spent one or two test days with the car from previous years, but nothing compares to a real weekend. We have to get through this, and we will. I'm not worried about it at all.

Q: Lewis has spent his entire career competing in British and German teams with a different mentality than Ferrari. How does he adapt to the Italian style of racing, communication with Tifosi, food and life in Maranello?Frederick Wasser: He competed for the French team in Formula 3 and Formula 2. I don't think adapting to Italian food is a drama when you come from the UK.

Question: What do you think about the pros and cons of competing with Cadillac? What can General Motors bring to Formula 1?Frederic Wasser: The automotive industry is going through a difficult period. For me, the appearance of another manufacturer, especially an American one, is good news. It is too early to consider them as a solution provider for other teams – as a manufacturer of chassis and engines, they will enter the fight in the final stages of the next regulation.

We have a good relationship with them. They do a good job and take it seriously. Of course, it's a challenge. It's not easy for teams that are already on the starting grid, but starting from scratch is much more difficult. It's a serious challenge, but anything is possible.
