Antonelli feels more confident after the first race.
On the first lap of the Melbourne race, Kimi Antonelli almost crashed his car at the exit of turn five. Before the start of the race weekend in China, the Mercedes driver said he was scared at the time, but the race and the fourth place finish added to his confidence.
Kimi Antonelli: "At that moment, I was really scared. I can't exactly reproduce what I thought at the time, because… But I definitely saved myself from relegation. Not bad for the first round.
I really enjoyed the race. In the first segment, I tried to understand the conditions on the track. The grip level on the asphalt was very low in the first laps, especially on the white lines, so it was very difficult.
The condition of the track was constantly changing, and at the same time I was trying to understand the behavior of the intermediate tires, since this was the first time I worked with them. I felt more confident in the car in such conditions on the intermediate tyres in the last lap, so I really enjoyed the race, but it seemed short. I remember during the safety car, when we switched to slicks, I looked at the scoreboard and saw that it was the fortieth lap. And I thought: "We're almost there."
Overall, it was a busy weekend in Melbourne, especially in qualifying. But now I feel more relaxed and in better control of the situation. Of course, I still have a lot to learn, but I'm looking forward to the start of the weekend."
