Piastri: Our uniform in Melbourne is the exception, not the norm.
Speaking to the press in Shanghai on Thursday, Lando Norris and George Russell made opposing statements: George believes that McLaren can win all the races this season, while Lando assures that the MCL39 car is not easy to drive, and this weekend the rivals will perform stronger than in Melbourne.
The journalists asked Oscar Piastri to comment on both of these statements, and the Australian McLaren driver replied: "I think one of these statements is pretty far-fetched. I'll let you decide which one.
I think it's pretty obvious that our car was very fast in Melbourne. There's no point in denying it. I think we were able to make it work well. You know, racers never get to the full extent of what they want, but it was obvious that in those conditions in Melbourne, our car was very fast. And George has said a lot of funny things in the last few weeks. We'll see.
There is only one race left on the track where we have been competitive in recent years, although our car has not dominated like Red Bull's. We'll have more problems on other tracks, that's for sure.
If George wants to write off the whole season after the first weekend, then that's his right. But we are well aware that the weekend in Melbourne was the exception, not the expected norm."
