Verstappen: Everything will become much more interesting with V10 engines

Max Verstappen has hinted that a return to naturally aspirated V10 engines could be a factor in his decision to extend his career in Formula 1.

His arrangements with Red Bull are formally calculated until the end of 2028, but there has long been talk that the four-time world champion may leave the team earlier, since his current contract provides for the possibility of termination under certain conditions. But more often than not, these rumors were based on the obvious interest in a rider of this level from other teams.

He himself does not hide the fact that he would like to try his hand at other motorsport categories, especially since he is not satisfied with many things in modern Formula 1: there are too many races, besides, the championship suffers from obvious overregulation.

But recently, the paddock started talking about a possible return to naturally aspirated V10 engines, but which should run on eco-friendly fuels and, in theory, the environmental damage from them will be somewhat less than from atmospheric engines of previous generations. Of course, so far this is only one of the likely scenarios for the further development of the championship, and it is not at all a fact that it will be implemented.

When Max was asked about his attitude to this idea, he said, "I'm not responsible for making the rules. Although, of course, if we talk about the purely emotional side of our sport, then the V10 is definitely much better than what we have now.

After all, I remember from childhood that when I heard the sound of such engines, it made a much stronger impression, even if the speed of those cars was probably inferior to modern ones. But those engines evoked such strong emotions that it is simply impossible to describe in words."

When Verstappen was asked if a return to V10 engines could influence his decision to stay in Formula 1, the Dutch driver replied: "Yes, probably. Then everything will definitely become much more interesting than what is happening now."
