Voules: Both drivers will be earning points soon.
Over the past year, the Williams team scored 17 points and took 9th place in the Constructors' Championship. She already has exactly the same number of points on her account, although only two stages of the new season are behind her, and she shares 4th place in the team standings with Ferrari.
James Voules, head of Williams Racing, is proud of the progress made, but at the same time emphasizes that the most important thing now is not to slow down the pace of work.
"It's great that we already have as many points as we had last year, but I feel difficult emotions, because it also serves as a reminder that we earned very few in 2024," he said. – Besides, it speaks to the intensity of the rivalry in the championship, because Haas and Aston Martin have almost the same number of points.
And I must admit that in reality our car was only the ninth fastest in China, so we still have a lot to do, but this is the essence of the journey we set out on.
There will be a lot of changes in 2026 and beyond, but for now, the challenge is to continue to squeeze everything out of our current machine, right down to the last millisecond.
I'm lucky to have two world-class drivers in our team right now. The whole world can already see that Alex Albon is performing absolutely great, but very soon both will be earning points. I want to point out that Alex and Carlos Sainz have very similar requirements for the settings, for the balance of the car, and this also helps in the work. But at the same time, we must admit that a number of her characteristics are not yet at such a high level, to which Carlos is accustomed.
But I am proud of our team, because during the Chinese race weekend we acted very correctly, trying to fully unleash the potential of the FW47. However, as we continue to move forward, it is important not only to improve the efficiency of our current machine, but also to solve problems related to the future. It is not easy to find the right balance by distributing efforts.
I'm just glad that in China (after the disqualification of three competitors) Carlos scored points, and Alex was rewarded for having a great race.
Together with the whole team, we are trying to ensure that our car can handle not only one particular track with confidence, but can work effectively at all 24 stages of the calendar, because this is the only way to rise to higher positions in the Constructors' Championship.
There is still a lot to be done and improved in a number of aspects. For example, during the Shanghai sprint, we looked worse than our rivals in terms of rubber degradation, but we made a lot of changes to the settings for the main race of the weekend, and this allowed us to achieve significant improvements.
In general, it is necessary to continue to work, including it is important to be able to adapt faster than rivals to various kinds of changes that may occur during the race. It seems that we succeeded in China, which is also why both of our riders ended up in the top ten."
