"He has been very supportive of me from the start."
Before heading to Japan, Kimi Antonelli spent a day with MotoGP icon and fellow Italian Valentino Rossi. Eurosport Italia reports that the 18-year-old, now a Mercedes driver, joined Rossi for a karting session at the VR46 talent academy, founded by the retired nine-time world champion.
"We trained in the kart together, which was really enjoyable," Antonelli shared with reporters at Suzuka, confirming that the event occurred at the Migliaro kart track in Italy. "Vale is a genuinely great guy," the Formula 1 newcomer remarked. "We had a good time, and he shared some amusing stories from his MotoGP days, although I can’t disclose them now. This year, I’ll likely attend a few MotoGP races to cheer on the academy riders."
Antonelli noted that this wasn't his first meeting with the 46-year-old Rossi. "He has been very supportive of me from the beginning, and he advised me to keep working hard and enjoying myself. Most importantly, he encouraged me to focus on myself and not worry about anything else, to appreciate the moment, and stay focused.
"He is truly an admirable person, and I will always look up to him since he is a legendary figure in motorsport. I greatly appreciate his kindness in offering his support."
