Lando Norris: The race was lost in qualifying
Thanks to Lando Norris' second place and Oscar Piastri's third, the McLaren team has increased its lead in the Constructors' Cup, and after three races of the season, it is 36 points ahead of its closest pursuers from Mercedes. However, in the individual standings, Lando Norris' advantage over Max Verstappen in the fight for the lead was reduced to one point.
Lando Norris (2nd): "I think I lost the race yesterday in qualifying. Max was an excellent pilot, without making a single mistake. We had a very close pace today, so I couldn't do anything more. It was a long race, during which we had to constantly attack.
I attacked with full force from start to finish, but today it wasn't enough to do anything with Max. He was fast and he didn't make mistakes, so it was a well-deserved result.
An incident on the way out of the pit lane? In my opinion, it was a racing incident. Max was in front, I tried to squeeze through, but Max is the last person I would expect to leave a place for me. In a good way, in a racing way. He didn't do anything else.
Nevertheless, we had a very good weekend, although we didn't get into the positions we wanted. We fight for victory every weekend, but today the first place was earned by the rivals. Red Bull and Max deserve to win this weekend.
They're fast, they're catching up with us and obviously they've made some improvements, but we missed something this weekend. We'll have to work even harder before the next race."
Oscar Piastri (3rd): "I think our fate was sealed in yesterday's qualifying. I had a good pace, I'm very happy with the car and I've been very close a few times, but track position is very important here. We should have won the race yesterday, but we didn't do well enough.
I think if I had a different position on the track, I would have been able to compete with Max. But when you qualify behind, you get what you got."
