George Russell: The FIA is moving towards instability
Today it became known about the resignation of FIA Deputy President for Sports Robert Reed due to the fact that, in his opinion, the president of the federation, Mohammed bin Sulayem, departs from its basic principles. The chairman of the GPDA Formula 1 drivers' union, George Russell, commented on the resignation and said that the FIA was moving towards instability.
George Russell: "Robert Reed contacted the drivers by sending us an email explaining his decision. We haven't talked to him yet, but obviously his decision this morning was news to us.
Eventually, there comes a point where these things start happening too often. In the past, the riders tried to intervene, but we were not given the opportunity, and it seems that things are moving towards instability now.
There comes a time when we have to trust the teams and Formula 1 in their work with the FIA to come to a common opinion. But if we can help, then we want to participate in it.
Every time we hear the news [about resignations in the FIA], they are not particularly surprising. It's a pity that this happened to a man who was highly respected in sports and with such a background.
We are constantly asking the question, what will happen next? It's a pity that all this is happening, but hopefully sooner or later we'll get more stability."
