Alonso desires 'reduced media' presence in Formula 1.
"Formula 1 is what it is - you have to appreciate it that way."
Fernando Alonso has a straightforward desire for enhancing Formula 1 - "Less media." In the time between the extremely fast yet somewhat uneventful Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka, typical discussions have been ongoing, including a notable remark by former Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson. "I have an idea to make F1 racing more consistently exciting," he posted on X. "Avoid using tracks where overtaking is tough."
Alonso, F1's most seasoned driver, reacted to such comments while speaking to the media in Bahrain. "Remove those rose-colored glasses," he was quoted as saying by Eurosport Italia. "Formula 1 has always functioned this way. Nowadays, we are continuously searching for entertainment, but it's important to appreciate F1 for what it represents. There are other excellent series featuring more overtaking, closer racing, and more tire changes.
"Formula 1 is what it is - you have to embrace it as such," the 43-year-old Alonso continued. However, he does have a clear opinion on how to enhance F1. "Less media," the two-time world champion joked. "This remains a sport, and there are too many press conferences. Thursday is packed with press events, and then on Friday we head to the fan zone and face even more questions.
"We are also required to make statements after FP2, which all drivers must do, then we create content for our social media after qualifying and the race. If you consider this across all drivers, team principals, and others in similar roles, it’s evident that we tend to speak too much."
