Q: This weekend marks the end of the first three consecutive Grand Prix series of the season. What logistical difficulties have arisen during this period?Sergio Bondi: At the beginning of the season, the most difficult task is to prepare kits for shipping structures and tools by sea, which we ship at different stages. This process requires careful planning and strict adherence to deadlines.
In the three-Grand Prix series, the biggest challenge was managing the constant flow of parts from Maranello to the track, which can be either new or spare parts, or parts returning to base.
Question: During the season, the World Cup will visit four continents. Name the figures related to the movement of equipment and people.…Sergio Bondi: Formula 1 covers 340,000 kilometers per year, and we manage the movement of more than 100 people, materials, and equipment.
If we talk about staff, then this is the organization of thousands of arrivals and departures from hotels, car rentals, and airport procedures.
We have six identical sets of equipment for the entire season, and their movement is also carefully planned. A kit from Bahrain is already on the way and will be used in Monaco, while a kit from China will be used in Miami. Then it will be used on other American stages, traveling by rail with our partners from Ceva Logistics.
Shorter crossings are carried out by trucks, and we try to limit the use of air transport and the resulting environmental pollution as much as possible.
We try to plan everything as early as possible, so that in the current season we only have to be distracted by some surprises - a car breakdown, broken parts or a sudden change in the situation in the world. But there are also real incidents, for example, the fall of a container and damage to all its contents.
Question: Efficiency and environmental friendliness are becoming increasingly important. What measures have you taken in recent years regarding the movement of your team and equipment?Sergio Bondi: Economic stability is very important and allows you to invest in more expensive projects without exceeding budget constraints. Our goal is to make logistics as efficient as possible. Whenever possible, we prefer sea transportation to air transportation, because although it is slower, it provides significant savings.
In general, our strategy is to consolidate the materials we send. We plan the delivery for each race, combining and concentrating materials to reduce the volume of traffic, to find a compromise between weight and volume.
