Nico Hulkenberg clocked ninth in the second practice session of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. The Sauber driver was evaluating various settings and preparing for the main events of the weekend.
His teammate Gabriel Bortoleto missed the second practice session due to a fuel leak. The team found out that the leak is located in the tank area, and due to the tight integration of this element into the chassis, it is not possible to replace it in highway conditions. Therefore, Bortoleto will use a different monocoque in the remaining sessions of the weekend, around which the team will assemble a spare car.
Nico Hulkenberg (9th): "Jeddah has an impressive piloting track with high-speed sections and quick changes of direction. The track is dynamic and challenging.
I am glad that in the first practice session I was able to bring the car into the operating range, and in the second session we worked out the standard Friday program. The team gathered useful information about tire performance and made structural adjustments to the settings during the break between training sessions. We'll continue working on the details in the evening, but it's good to see that we're in the middle of a fight."
Gabriel Bortoleto (without time): "This is not the day I was hoping for. This is my first time driving a Formula 1 car in Jeddah, so it's a shame to waste precious time. Unfortunately, after the first session, we found a fuel leak, and because of this, I missed the second training session. This happens, and the team has done everything possible to fix the problem. I am grateful for their efforts, but it proved impossible to do so in the time we had at our disposal.
Nevertheless, I was able to do a few laps in the first practice session, which gave me a first impression of the circuit. It's nice to see that Niko finished the day in the top ten, which gives us a solid guideline.
Now it's important to study his telemetry as much as possible, prepare for Saturday and make the most of the final practice session before qualifying."
