Guido van der Garde: Lewis still lacks confidence
In an interview with RacingNews365, former Formula 1 driver Guido van der Garde commented on Lewis Hamilton's results after joining Ferrari.…
Guido van der Garde: "Lewis still lacks confidence. He came to Formula 1 young and zealous, fought on equal terms with Fernando Alonso, and later had an advantage in the fight against Rosberg, whom he beat back in karting. But times have changed, as have the drivers Hamilton competes with, with the exception of Alonso, who is still strong at 43.
Lewis is now facing a different generation of racers. He suffered a blow when he couldn't win his eighth title, then he didn't have a competitive car for several years, although he achieved good results several times last year, for example, at Silverstone. But, as I said, his rivals are the younger generation of drivers who know modern cars better than Hamilton. I think it's a problem he can't get rid of at the moment.
I think if we had gone back to cars from five or six years ago, Lewis would have been the best. But he has to struggle more with the new generation of cars. You can't change your piloting style overnight. You can try one or the other, but then you return to your base anyway. But if he can adapt to modern machines, he will return to the game. Of course, he's still very fast."
