Tauriss: We know we can't avoid problems.
Cadillac F1 received permission to make its World Championship debut in 2026, becoming the 11th Formula 1 team, now the question is how to do it. The Race quotes project manager Dan Taurissa, who spoke in Miami about the difficulties facing the team.…
Dan Tauriss: "It wasn't easy to get permission. You can't just create a presentation and say, "I want to get into Formula 1." You need to demonstrate what you are capable of.
We invited employees, worked with the car model in the wind tunnel, and proved our financial viability and partnership with GM. We were told "No" many times, sometimes politely, sometimes not so much, but in the end we managed to put everything together, and Formula 1 saw the value that we bring. And now we're here, we feel welcome in Formula 1, and we're really excited to be on the starting grid in 2026.
After receiving the permission, we felt relieved for a moment, but quickly realized that the countdown had begun. Everyone knows that time is not on our side, and we are working harder every day, but there is still more to do.
We had a model for the wind tunnel, but without the Pirelli tires, just a simulated version of them. We really lack the information that all the current teams have. We hope to overcome all these difficulties, but we understand that it will not be possible to avoid them.
The good news is that we have been hiring people for several years, so many excellent specialists have already taken their mandatory leave and started working. They know what it takes to succeed. We are happy with our team, we have all the necessary tools to form a team.
Cooperation with other teams has recently become much more intense. The heads of all the teams got in touch. It was great to talk to them. Formula 1, Liberty, and the FIA have a fantastic attitude towards us. Now that we're here, we can just focus on racing."
